Citrine Rings and Citrine Pendants are November’s Birthstone Stone

Citrine is the birthstone for November and is the 17th year marriage anniversary gift.  This semiprecious stone whose name is derived from the French word citron meaning “the yellow of lemon”, is a most sought after stone and the clearer it is the more value it possesses. The best color is a saturated yellow to reddish orange with no hint of brown.  The larger the stone, the more golden it becomes. A citrine ring and other estate citrine jewelry, such as a citrine pendant, can change color if left in the sunlight for several hours.  Although a citrine has a hardness of 7 out of 10 on the Mohs hardness scale it is a very good ring for everyday use. It is not wise to wear your jewelry in daylight over an extended period of time. A citrine is probably heat treated from a pale amethyst to a mellow warm color comes from Brazil.  Natural citrines are rare, but only a gemologist can recognize whether a stone has been heat treated or not. Sources for citrine are Brazil, Bolivia, Spain, Hungary, Madagascar, California, Colorado, North Carolina, Georgia and Nevada.
